Meet Our Pastor
Our pastor, Dr. Mackie J. Cookley was born in Jamestown, South Carolina, the second of eleven children of the late Reverend James and Susan Langley Cookley.
Dr. Cookley is a graduate of Russellville High School, St. Stephen, South Carolina. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina; Master of Education Degree, Coppin State College, Baltimore, Maryland; Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry, Virginia Seminary and College Baltimore Extension, Baltimore, Maryland.
Pastor Cookley preached his first sermon in the Pleading Holiness Church in October 1971. It was in the year of 1972 that God gave Dr. Cookley a vision and in 1973 he organized the Cookleys Christian Community Chapel with eight adult members. The visions continued and the church’s name was changed to Cookleys Community Baptist Church in 1979.
Our pastor is truly a family man. He has been married to Lucille since 1965. Their children Cathy, Cardell (son by marriage to Cathy), Rev. Lynn, Rev. Kevin, and Evangelist Euphrasynia (daughter by marriage to Kevin); grandchildren and great grandchildern are active in church ministry. These words are echoed by Rev. Cookley, “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” – Joshua 24:15. Rev. Cookley believes in putting God first, his family next, and himself last.
Dr. Cookley would like to have it said that he received his degrees from God: his B.A., he has been Born Again; and his PhD, he has Past Having Doubts about what the Lord can and will do. He knows that the Lord can and will make a way out of no way. Pastor Cookley continues to encourage us to learn more about God and to let Jesus be the Lord of our lives.

So that you will know more about the Cookleys Community Baptist Ministry,
you will find biographical information and listing of the various ministries.
The Officers - These include Trustees,
Deacons and the Finance Department.
The Music Ministry - Includes Voices of
Cookleys, Cookleys Specials, Brotherhood
and Praise Team. Glorifying God through
music to spread the “good news” of Jesus.
Intercessory Prayer Ministry - Make prayer
requests, intervene and meditate on the
behalf of others.
Nutrition Ministry – prepares and serves
nutritious meals.
Christian Education – Includes Sunday
School, Leadership Class and Bible College.
Purpose: to promote spiritual growth through
learning how to study God’s Word and the
love of God and Savior.
Dance Ministry – The Young Believers and
Peculiar Praisers use the art of expressive
dance through worship using body
movements. (Psalm 139:14 and Psalm 150)
Multi Media Ministry – Spread the Gospel of
Jesus Christ through the use of
state-of-the-art audio and visual technology.
Missionary Ministry – to encourage within
our group to know that the power to meet
needs are already within us.
Sharing Ministry – consists of The Adult
Usher Ministry, Youth and Young Adult
Usher Ministry and The Nursing Ministry.
Willing Workers Ministry – Our name says it all! Our
purpose is to be willing to do whatever God
needs us to do.
Brotherhood Ministry – Provides
opportunities for Christian men to unite in
fellowship to help one another to grow in
personal devotion to Jesus Christ.

The Associate Ministers consist of men and women who have answered the call to preach the gospel of JESUS CHRIST, are instructors in the ministry, are spiritual assistants to the pastor, and they are accessible at all times.
